CLAIRE IN CENTRAL ARIZONA
After her mother died (1921), she began spending part of the year in Prescott, Arizona. About the same time, she revised her first name from the popular Clara to the less popular, but perhaps more trendy, Claire. By the mid-20s, she had moved permanently to Arizona and in 1927 married Kervin R. Phillips. She was known as Claire D. Phillips (nonart signature) or Claire Dooner Phillips (listing in American Women), with her maiden name as a middle name, but signed her art -

using a hyphenated last name. Her block prints and etchings were signed in the plate with a monogram --
