Phillips corresponded with numerous relatives and friends at Christmas time. She saved some these cards, at least the fronts, presumable for ideas. Many are block prints made by the sender.
Some of these cards come from friends in California, such as Stella Knight Ruess and Anne Bennett, but many are from residents of Prescott. All of the Prescott cards were made by women and only two of them, Phillips and Ada Rigden, appear to have been recognized artists.
This group of cards appears to represent a circle of friends who exchanged artwork at the same time that they exchanged greetings. Some of the cards may represent the efforts of students in her night school art classes, which had an exhibit of block prints at the Monday Club in December 1938.
